Tucked away in the heart of the Pacific, the island of Kosrae is home to 7,000 people and a culture defined by resilience. While our island is small, just 42 square miles, our potential is vast. Currently, many of our young adults seek education and opportunity abroad, often leading to a loss of vital skills and leadership within our own community.
Grateful Ministries is dedicated to changing that narrative. We are working to reverse the trend of migration by empowering young Kosraeans to invest their education and skills back into their home community. By improving local access to higher level education, healthcare, nutrition, and housing, we are building a sustainable future where our youth don't have to choose between success and home. By investing in our people, we ensure that Kosrae doesn’t just survive, but thrives for generations to come.

To the outside world, Kosrae looks like a Pacific paradise. Its breathtaking landscapes, white sandy beaches, and culture of profound kindness are the heart of our island, but they cannot sustain a community on beauty alone. Behind the scenery, our island is in a state of quiet desperation.
For those who call Kosrae home, the cost of survival has become unsustainable. While the local minimum wage sits at $2.50 an hour, the cost of imported essentials has reached crisis levels; a single bottle of cooking oil can cost $17 or more. As housing materials become unaffordable, homes fall into disrepair, and our families are forced to leave their ancestral land in search of a better life.
Grateful Ministries is working to stop this cycle. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life on Kosrae, making it not just a beautiful place to visit, but a sustainable place to raise a family. Our goal is to bring our people home and empower them to build a thriving, resilient island together.
